Randomized, blinded, observational: decoding study designs

The words in a study title tell you a lot. Here is how to read them.

Randomized

Volunteers are assigned to groups by chance, which helps make comparisons fair.

Blinded

Some volunteers or researchers do not know which group a person is in, to reduce bias.

Observational

Researchers record what happens naturally without assigning an approach.
